GREAT NEWS!!!!

After nealry a year we finally got the final approval from the IRS to be a 503 (c) (3) Charitable Organization!

We are now exempt from Federal Taxes and also can get many more benefits from the federal government.

Poker Run Blues

Well, our third attempt at a Poker Run was less than we had hoped.  We only had a few riders but the Harley Dealer, Battley cycles was outstanding as usual and was able to get donations from the cookout anyway.  We also kept our table there for the day and sold some merchandise and started a 50/50 raffle.  We had two door prizes donated by the Middlebrook Inn and Buckeystown Meat Market. All in all we made $250 but still had a lot of fun and got our name and cause out to a lot more people.  See the web site for pictures.  Special thaks to Steve Bennett for all his work organizing the event along with Bill, Crystal, Kim, Tracey and Ashley Bennett for also playing a big part in trying to make this a success.

We're BACK !!

Sorry for the long delay between posts here.  We were building another web site for the foundation and for a while there was no way to link all of this.

So much has happened since the last post here.  The Golf and Dogfish Head fundraisers were held and were a huge success as usual.  Thanks to Crystal, Kim and all the people who helped them pull off these events.  These events would not be the success they are without our volunteers.

We have the first annual poker run on 9/25 and the 3rd annual Spooktacular Halloween party on 10/30 coming up too!!

We are looking into Mike going to a special rehabilitation program either in California or Massachusetts.  They are Project Walk and Journey Forward.  Both programs use a special method, The Dardinski Method" of rehabilitation.  This method has received attention nationally and seems to have some marked success with some individuals with similar injuries as Mike.  We are planing to use some funds we have raised in combination with some scholarships we have applied for to take the 2-3 week classes.  Part of the process is for me to learn the training methods so that I can continue them here at home.  We'll keep everyone posted on that.

Mike is doing well health-wise with the exception of a new pressure ulcer he has.  We are going to NRH this week for both a visit to the Wound Care Clinic and to have a new "seat mapping" done with his wheelchair.  With time and proper treatment, he should recover from the ulcer.

Mike has had a very heightened amount of touch sensation which seems to still be improving.  He has always been able to feel the sensation of touch on his legs and torso, but over the last few months this seems to have improved even more.  He can now actually feel wrinkles in the bed sheets.  Hopefully the special rehab we are planning on later this year or early next spring will stimulate that progress even more.  There is still no improvement on moving his extremities, but one step at a time, right!!!!!!!

More to come.

Please take a moment to go to the web site now, the link is here on the blog.  Check out the Where is Mike page and the Success Stories.  Lots of good pics and a video of Mike wheelchair dancing!!.  You can get to this blog from our web site, so visit it often and start adding posts here when you can.
