Update

Mike has been making good progress with rehab. He was told his left wrist went from a 1 to a 3 out of 10 in the past week. He continues to improve in other areas too. He has been in really good spirits the last 2 days.

On another front he found out today he has CDIFF. A bowel infection that they supected he may have had from the start. It explains the diareha problem and the high white blood cell count. He is on antibiotics and it should run it's course, however it can be contageous and until it is gone visitors have to wear a gown when they go in the room and I wouldn't bring little ones around. But don't let that stop you adults from visiting please.

Mike is also having surgery tomorrow morning to put a catheter through his stomach wall to his bladder. This was an option he chose to take rather than the constant catheter. This way he can manage things better and have the bag on his leg rather than dragging it around. This is much better for his bladder health in the long run too, and is reversable if and when he gets more feeling.

We are all ramping up to get Mike home on the 17th of Sept. Renovation plans are in the works for the house and I am hunting for a van. We are anxious to get fundraising activities in the works to help offset some of the costs, which are very significant. The non profit Company, Michael H. Gotzens, Inc. is in the works but takes a few weeks to get set up. Then the account will be open for non profit and we can start putting in proceeds from the wristbands and other activities as they happen.

Thanks again to all for your support of Mike by visiting and keeping his spirits up and for the efforts you have started to make in fundraising. We couldn't do it without all of you.

Hey Mike :) We just wanted a drop a line to say we miss you, I know it's gotta be irritating always taken two steps forward, and 1 step back with all of these stupid infections, but like you always do, you'll fight through them. I wanted you to know that we sent our save the dates for the wedding out and included a copy of the wristband fundraiser in every envelope. I hope that brings in some sales because thats 140 people that will get one. I am going to send you one at the hospital so you can see it too. Can't wait to get you out and movin around, football season is under way, Jay said he can't wait til you're across from him at Petes in your spots:) We love you, kisses.

Love, Jay and Amanda

Hey Mikey,

Best of luck in the procedure tomorrow, I know you will be fine because you have been a constant fighter and I know that isn't about to change.

It was great to see you yesterday as always, and I miss you every second we are not there.

Love you very much,
Shan

Dad,
What a great update and thankfully they found out what his infection is and can take care of it. Another step in the right direction!

It is so wonderful to hear that Mike's spirits have been really up these past 2 days - along with the continuing progress each and every day. Wonderful report about the level of function from a 1 to a 3 out of 10 (and more to go) for his left wrist. Another surgery - but it won't be as difficult as the last one and it sounds like a preferable option than what Mike currently has with the catheter and bag (with a potentially even better option down the road). Mike made a very good decision on that. And back on the antibiotics - but this time, they know what they are targeted for (and those gowns we'll wear during the visits are rather attractive!). The news seems all positive and on the upswing; it has only been just over a month.

The fundraising is underway - and the funds will be found somehow at the time they are needed.

Enjoy the next round of visits from the Scott family and other friends this weekend. Love to Mike and to the family - we'll be talking very soon. - Aunt Nancy and Uncle Ray

Great update Jeff! Do you think we should make the trip down...will Mike be up for it? Maybe we'll check in tomorrow afternoon before we leave.

Good luck MIKE!! I love you and know you'll kick ass!

Thanks for the update Jeff!!! I saw the latest one as well, that the surgery is postponed for now. Mike will definitely get passed this. We are planning on coming to visit tomorrow and can't wait to see Mike! Please pass my love to Mike and tell him I said "keep working hard!".

UThe wristbands are being delivered in the morning (according to the tracking info) and will start being sent out immediately. If we get them before we leave tomorrow, I'll be bringing 500 with me (250 adult, 250 youth). Either way, they will be on hundreds of wrists in no time. I have already received numerous emails requesting them!!! And similar to Amanda and Jay...Yves and I are planning on buying 200 for our wedding favors.

Keep up that GOTZ STRENGTH

Love to all,
Robin
